ABALONE (2026) is inspired by the beauty of the abalone shell. The two double basses take turns swirling through ambiguous arpeggios and mysterious melodies over an occasional background of textural harmonics and open strings. The aim is to evoke the iridescent greensand blues, as well as the spirals and grit, that make the gastropod’s shell feel so otherworldly.
