ABOUT
Lindsay Donat is a double bassist known for her intuitive musicality, striking sound, and engaging performances.
Donat performed as a member of the Peabody Orchestra, the Peabody Conductor’s Orchestra, and with the Juilliard Orchestra in locations such as Carnegie Hall, David Geffin Hall, and Alice Tully Hall. In 2023 She was a soloist for the Peabody Orchestra’s performance of Stravinsky’s Pulcinella Suite at the Grand Opening Celebration of the Hopkins Bloomberg Center in DC. She played in masterclasses with Paul Ellison, Tracy Rowell, David Allen Moore, Robin Kesselman, Toyin Spellman-Diaz, Nico Abondolo, Ira Gold, and Paul DeNola.
With a refusal to limit the power of the double bass to just one role, Donat has a particular passion for chamber music, and is exploring composition. Her multimedia work “Moments Music with Marchena and Momo” was awarded a Juilliard Fall 2022 Project Grant. Eager to further explore her compositional voice and to showcase the potential of the double bass as a solo and chamber instrument, she plans to release more works and arrangements in the future.
Donat was a 2024 Sarasota Music Festival Fellow, and also attended the Bowdoin International Music Festival and Domaine Forget International Music and Dance Academy. She received a teaching fellowship for Juilliard’s CLIMB (Combining Literacy with Musical Beginning) program, during which she taught relatives of MAP (Music Advancement Program) students.
In 2025, Donat will graduate with a Masters in Music from the Peabody Institute where she studies with Nina Decesare, and in 2023, she graduated from The Juilliard School where she worked with Joseph Conyers, Rex Surany, and Albert Laszlo.
